Tax Site Type Description:

While you can receive free tax help at any one of the locations on this website (if you are eligible, of course), here are some details on the different tax preparation services providers:

VITA is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Site usually hosted by a Community Based Organization or local government agency that prepares taxes for low to moderate income taxpayers. VITA is an IRS program that has been in existence since 1969.

AARP Tax-Aide sites operate Tax Counseling for the Elderly sites (another IRS program) that give special attention to seniors, but they also help those others who qualify for free tax help in general.

Tax-Aid sites are staffed by CPAs and other tax professionals who volunteer at specific locations throughout tax season and prepare taxes for low to moderate income families in the Bay Area.

Special Event Tax Days are hosted by multiple organizations coming together for one-day events to prepare taxes for low to moderate income taxpayers.
