FEDERAL AND CALIFORNIA EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

The Federal and California Earned Income Tax Credits (Cal EITC) are cash-back tax credits for working people that provide a critical boost in income. EKS ensures that all of our clients access these credits, along with California’s Young Child Tax Credit which is available to working Californians with young children.

In 2021, the Cal EITC and Young Child Tax Credit will be available to all eligible working Californians, including younger workers, those over 65, and those filing a tax return with an ITIN. California residents who made less than $30,000 in 2020 may be eligible for up to $8,000 in state and federal tax credits, depending on income and family size.

Learn more about the EITC and Cal EITC via our partners at the IRS, California Franchise Tax Board and CalEITC4me.

GOLDEN STATE STIMULUS

California will provide the Golden State Stimulus payments of either $600 or $1,200 total to families and individuals who qualify for the Cal EITC or file with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. All you need to do is file a 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021.

To qualify, you must:

  • Have filed your 2020 taxes
  • Be either:
  • A CalEITC recipient
    • An ITIN filer who made $75,000 or less (total CA AGI)
    • Be a California resident on the date payment is issued
  • Not be eligible to be claimed as a dependent

The GSS aims to support low-income Californians and help those facing a hardship due to COVID-19.
